Devinez's paintings are a realm of spirit, thought, emotion, and experience. Paintings are statements. Sometimes short and quiet as a whisper, sometimes as elaborate as speeches.
The paintings here speak of human emotions, the psyche...
Sometimes about what we face, what we don't want to admit, what we fear, what we don't acknowledge, what we repress...
About events and circumstances, both contemporary and recorded in history, that have a real impact on people. About the strength and power of the human mind and emotions. In both aspects—positive, as it grows, develops, and improves, and negative, as it grows, develops, and destroys. About the affects that drive people to take action, as well as the long-term processes that gradually consolidate change...
These themes resonate most strongly in the series of non-figurative works, commonly referred to as abstractions.
The form of painting changes, yet it invariably touches upon a person's inner experiences and the condition of their soul.
The series of landscapes and views of the cosmos, in turn, serves as a reminder that man is not alone here—and that his agency has its limits. The power of Nature remains stronger than attempts to subjugate, modify, or destroy it.
The power of the elements—when a storm blows, when fire consumes, when the earth cracks, man faces his own fragility and helplessness.
Metaphysical realms and abysses tempt us to enter them, inviting the viewer to explore their own spirituality, their own being. This intuitive understanding of being allows us to explore our own inner landscapes.
"Painting" perversely refers to pain, but also carries a trace of hope. Views dominated by heavy, dark clouds almost always contain light. Its breakthrough becomes a symbol of the element of life, the inner desire for peace and balance, present—to a greater or lesser extent—in every soul. Sometimes
it represents the will to fight. Clouds are a symbol of constant movement and change. Fire, though destructive, can also be a sign of purification.
Devinez's construction brings to mind a French expression: "guess, surmise." Each time, it forces one to think. To interpret and decipher the message for yourself, to look at yourself in these images, as if in mirrors.
